Invisalign Clear Aligners are quickly becoming the go-to method for our Houston cosmetic dentist patients to correct the alignment of their teeth–especially for our adult patients. However, metal dental braces continue to remain the most popular method for straightening teeth, simply because they are more versatile. Does that mean metal braces are better? In this article, our Houston cosmetic dentist will discuss the differences between the two and answer this question.
Let’s start by comparing how both treatments are done.
Metal dental braces consist of metal brackets that are glued to the teeth, as well as a metal archwire that is placed across the teeth in order to put pressure on the brackets, gradually moving the teeth to their correct alignment.
Invisalign, on the other hand, is only plastic. This sturdy plastic is shaped to your mouth, but also to how we want your teeth to shift. Its sturdiness puts pressure on your teeth to gradually straighten them.
Whereas your metal dental braces treatment will include adjustment appointments, your Invisalign treatment doesn’t require as many appointments with our Houston cosmetic dentist. Rather, every few weeks you will get a new set of Invisalign clear aligners that will shift your teeth to the next phase of your treatment.
Our Houston cosmetic dentist offers both treatments because one isn’t necessarily better than the other. Both dental braces treatments work wonders for giving you a straight and healthy smile; they simply work efficiently for different cases.
Invisalign tends to work best for mild corrections, as these can be achieved fairly quickly. Metal braces work for virtually all types of corrections, but for severe and more complex cases, they may work much faster than Invisalign would.
If you would like to straighten your teeth so you can smile more confidently, please book an appointment with our Houston cosmetic dentist so we can get started with a dental braces consultation. This will help us understand your needs and recommend the right dental braces for you! We look forward to giving you a winning smile!
