Dentist visits are typically dreaded by both our adult patients and our Houston kids dentist patients. Part of the reasoning for this is the fact that there is a lot of anxiety associated with dental visits–and we don’t blame you! It’s never necessarily fun to have someone with metal tools poke around your mouth, but it is necessary if you want to maintain great health. However, if you’re a patient who suffers from anxiety about dental appointments, you’ll be relieved to know that our Houston dentist offers various sedation techniques.
Dental sedation, otherwise known as sedation dentistry, entails using different methods designed to ease restlessness and anxiety in our patients. We offer various sedation methods in order to cater to the various needs of our adult patients as well as our pediatric patients. Our different methods of sedation dentistry are as follows:
This is the simplest, most basic way to sedate a patient worried about pain. When using local anesthesia, we inject medication into the area we will treat. This medicine temporarily blocks the nerve endings so they don’t send pain signals, which means you won’t feel anything when we work on your teeth. You will feel numb in the affected area, but it will fade shortly after you leave the office.
Laughing gas is our best recommendation for dental sedation when it comes to patients that experience high levels of mental/emotional stress before getting any dental work done. We tend to use it when our Houston pediatric dentist treats children, but laughing gas is also suitable for adults.
Though not a method our Houston dentist uses very often, sometimes we have patients that are just so anxious they cannot cooperate or sit still. This is reserved for our patients with severe anxiety about dental treatment, including infants and children who are too scared to sit still, as this makes it very difficult for us to provide the necessary dental treatment.
If we want to give you or your child a winning smile, then it’s crucial that we ensure their comfort before anything else. You should visit us at least every six months for a dental check-up, so if it’s been a while since you last went to the dentist, please book an appointment with our Houston dentist. We will get to know your needs and determine which dental sedation method, if any, is suitable for you.
