Cosmetic Veneers at Victory Smiles in Houston

Cosmetic Veneers at Victory Smiles in Houston

Veneers are a really popular cosmetic dentistry procedure performed by our Houston dentists. Applying veneers is a very quick and easy process, as it isn't a surgical procedure. Even better, getting veneers creates a dramatically positive change in the patient’s appearance by offering an all-new smile.

What Are Veneers and Why Might You Consider Them?

A veneer is a thin, lightweight porcelain shell that is placed over the surface of your tooth. Veneers are meant to hide any dental flaws you may not feel comfortable with, such as discoloration, misshaped teeth, and even gaps.

In addition to fixing imperfections, porcelain veneers are bright and a nice shade of pearly white, which suggests that you have stronger and healthier enamel. In general, our patients who have undergone the procedure and received veneers are much happier. They smile more and look brighter, which makes them feel more confident than ever.

The Procedure For Getting Veneers at Victory Smiles

No teeth are the same from one patient to the next, which means no treatment will be. Each approach we take to applying veneers will vary slightly, but you can expect the procedure to be completed within three visits.

At your first visit, we will complete a thorough oral examination to see if veneers are a good option for you. The second visit will consist of preparing you for your veneers. The tooth will require a bit of a reduction to ensure the veneers fit snuggly, and then we will take an impression and send it to the dental lab so your custom veneers can be created. This will typically take about 1-2 weeks.

At your last visit, the veneers will be placed over your teeth and trimmed if necessary to ensure a comfortable fit. Veneers last a long time, so it's important that we achieve a perfect fit. Once you and our cosmetic dentist are happy with the veneers, they will be bonded to your teeth with a specialized dental cement and your bite will be evaluated.

Dental Bridges at Victory Smiles in Houston

Dental Bridges at Victory Smiles in Houston

Dental bridges are one of the many cosmetic dentistry services we offer at Victory Smiles in Houston. Because they may not be as common as crowns, this blog breaks down what bridges are and why you may consider them now or possibly in the future.

What Are Bridges

A bridge is a fixed restoration that quite literally bridges the gap between your remaining healthy teeth after losing one or more. Dental bridges are made up of prosthetic teeth known as “pontics”, which are held in place by crowns cemented to the adjacent, healthy teeth.

It’s important to note that once we have completed an extraction, your gums will tend to shrink over the next few months while they adjust to the new gap between your teeth. If we were to immediately give you a bridge, it would result in a poor, uncomfortable fit, which wouldn't last long enough. Instead, our cosmetic dentist give you a temporary bridge. Once you come back and your dentist determines that your gums can snuggly hold a permanent bridge, we will create and install it for you.

Why Might You Need A Dental Bridge?

First and foremost, bridges are best suited to patients who need to replace any teeth that have been extracted due to excessive tooth decay. Bridges are especially helpful for our patients who have experienced more damage and even some jaw bone loss.

Aside from filling in the gap in your dental arch, installing dental bridges also helps ensure you can still eat and speak comfortably by avoiding a bad bite, prevents your other teeth from shifting, and maintains the shape of your face. When teeth are lost and not replaced, this will often result in what is known as facial collapse. Facial collapse occurs when your other teeth start moving into the gap in your dental arch, and over time, this will become noticeable in the overall shape of your lips, chin, and jaw, making you look older than you are.

If you are considering getting a bridge, please contact us so we can book an appointment for you with a cosmetic dentist. Our caring and highly-skilled dentist will complete an evaluation and determine which type of bridge is best to meet your needs and help you feel confident in your smile again.

Is Invisalign A Good Option For Adults?

Is Invisalign A Good Option For Adults?

Invisalign Clear Aligners first appeared in the 2000's. While there was some skepticism at first, over time, it has become a popular alternative for adults with minor orthodontic issues, and rightfully so. Could Invisalign be right for you?

Invisalign vs. Braces

Braces have long been the default method for all types of orthodontic treatments. They are fused onto the teeth with metal or ceramic brackets and a specialized dental cement, which acts like a glue. A metal wire is placed across your teeth to help put pressure on them, which encourages them to move to the correct position for a healthier, more comfortable bite. Our Houston dentists will periodically tighten that wire to help guide your teeth throughout your treatment.

Invisalign, on the other hand, doesn't use any wires or brackets. Invisalign is a treatment that includes a series of custom-designed clear trays, similar to a mouthguard, except they are much thinner and subtler on the teeth. Our Houston cosmetic dentists will typically recommend you wear your clear aligners for a few weeks at a time and then come back to our office for your next set of aligners. Each set has a slightly different shape to match each stage your teeth will go through as they become straighter. Slightly changing the shape of the aligner trays will help put pressure on your teeth to ensure they move where we need them to.

Invisalign Works Best For Certain Orthodontic Patients

Whereas braces work on all patients, regardless of the complexity of their orthodontic cases, Invisalign works best for certain people with certain corrections that need to be made.

When deciding whether Invisalign is the right treatment to undergo, our Houston cosmetic dentists recommend Invisalign to those who only require minor corrections, but also have a certain level of responsibility.

Because metal and ceramic braces are glued to the teeth, there is no temptation to remove them and even if there was, it's impossible to do so without the correct equipment. Invisalign Clear Aligners are removable and should be taken out at mealtimes, but the key is to remember to put them back on and not misplace them. Invisalign has to be worn for about 22 hours a day, so you must be responsible and strict enough with yourself to wear them as directed by our dentists.

After the evaluation, our skilled dentist will advise you on the treatment plan that best suits your personal orthodontic needs.

Partial Dentures at Victory Smiles in Houston

Partial Dentures at Victory Smiles in Houston

You may have seen or heard of dentures, especially complete sets of dentures, which may be used for both dental arches or just one of them. You may even have a relative that wears complete dentures on a daily basis. We typically recommend complete dentures to our patients who have lost most, or all, of their permanent teeth and need replacement in order to chew and speak properly. But did you know we also offer partial dentures as a cosmetic procedure at our Houston dentist office? Partial dentures are ideal for more minor cases.

What Are Partial Dentures?

Partial dentures are just like complete dentures, except rather than replacing most of a patient’s teeth, they are best suited to patients who are missing only a few of their teeth, especially if the missing teeth are all right next to each other. In addition to replacing lost teeth and helping the patient feel happier with their overall appearance, partial dentures are also used as a preventative measure to ensure that the healthy neighboring teeth don’t weaken or shift, thus discouraging further tooth loss.

How Do Partial Dentures Work?

Partial dentures are often made with an acrylic base that is colored similarly to the gums, but sometimes a metal base is used as well because of its durability. Replacement porcelain teeth are then built on top of the base to mimic the natural color of the teeth. Although they may not feel like your natural teeth, and some patients report mild discomfort when they first insert their dentures and adjust to them, the partial dentures that are made today are far better designed than they were many years ago. Today, partial dentures are both comfortable and effective and take little time to get used to.
