Victory Smiles Offers Dental Crowns as a Functional and Cosmetic Dental Procedure
Victory Smiles News
A dental crown, also referred to as a dental cap, is one of the many cosmetic dental services we offer, but they also serve a functional purpose by protecting the neighboring teeth. Here are some instances in which dental crowns may be appropriate and how the procedure works.
What Are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a hollow shell placed over the top of a tooth, hence the name. If a tooth is excessively damaged, often as a result of decay, then we do our absolute best to preserve as much of the tooth as possible. After clearing away the decay, we place the crown on the tooth to protect it from further damage.
If a tooth is cracked due to an injury, then a dental cap can hold it together to look better and also protect it. This means there is a chance your dental insurance will offer coverage for the procedure. In other instances, we have utilized crowns in order to correct a misshapen tooth as a purely cosmetic dental procedure.
Because we want you to feel confident even with a damaged tooth, we use porcelain to create your dental cap. This way we can offer solid protection of your teeth while also giving you the most natural appearance.
The Dental Crown Procedure at Victory Smiles in Houston
The First Visit
We will begin by numbing the damaged tooth. If you need a crown to protect a decayed or cracked tooth, then we will complete a filling so that the crown has something to hold onto. Afterward, we may shave down your tooth slightly in order to allow for a crown to fit comfortably. Once this preparation is complete, we will take impressions of your teeth, match their shade, and send them to our dental lab so they can create a cap that is perfectly customized to your mouth.
The Second Visit
At this point, it’s time to place your new, permanent crown over your tooth. We’ll make adjustments as needed and check your bite to ensure you have a comfortable, secure fit. Once we’ve determined the right fit, we’ll cement it to your tooth with a dental glue.
