Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Before he became a dentist, Dr. Truong volunteered for the Texas Mission of Mercy, which is a program that provides dental care for those who cannot afford treatment. During his time there, he got to assist a dentist in helping a homeless woman who had dealt with severe dental pain for 30 years. After her appointment, she was so overwhelmed with the relief she felt that she jumped out of the treatment chair and hugged Dr. Truong and the dentist. The experience both inspired him and broke his heart, and he decided to pursue dentistry so he could help other people just like the woman and hopefully prevent them from ending up in the same situation.

Where Did You Study

Dr. Truong attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston for his undergraduate education, and he went on to earn his dental degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. After this, he completed an Advanced Specialty Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.

While obtaining his specialty certificate, he also got a Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry degree at Loma Linda University. Since graduating from school, he has gone on to become certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), all levels of anesthesia, and nitrous oxide sedation.

What Do You Like to Do Outside of the Dental Office?

When Dr. Truong isn’t spending time with his beautiful wife and their adorable toddler, you’ll almost always find him in the kitchen. He has been dabbling with food since he was in elementary school when he tried to improve the Totino’s frozen pizza recipe. Now, he tries to replicate dishes created by world-famous chefs. He says that cooking is his second passion after dentistry, so be sure to ask him about the last interesting thing he made when you see him!
